God’s Word for Every Heart: First Complete Braille Bible in Any Ghanaian Language Launched - United Bible Societies

October 28, 2025

In a historic moment for inclusive ministry, the Bible Society of Ghana (BSG) has launched the Asante Twi Bible in Braille format for the first time, marking another step toward making the Bible accessible to all.

Held at Calvary Methodist Church in Kumasi on October 26, the event theme was “We Live by Faith, Not by Sight” (2 Corinthians 5:7). The launch coincided with the Bible Society’s 60th anniversary year, celebrating six decades of service to God’s mission of making Scripture available and understandable in every Ghanaian language.

The Asante Twi Braille Bible is the first complete Bible in Braille in any Ghanaian language, and is only the second Braille Bible available in Ghana, following the English edition. The Asante Twi Braille Bible was completed in nearly three years, following the release of the Asante Twi Bible in 2020, and comprises 82 volumes.

“Our goal is to ensure that everyone—regardless of their physical abilities—has the opportunity to read and experience God’s Word. Beyond translation, the Society also distributes Braille and audio Bibles to schools and libraries nationwide,” said Very Rev. John Kwesi Addo Jnr., BSG General Secretary.

Speakers at the launch described the Braille Bible as both a spiritual breakthrough and a social milestone. Gideon Asante, Ashanti Regional Coordinator of Special Education, called it “a symbol of hope, equality, and belonging,” urging the church and society alike to make inclusion more than just an idea.

The event also carried deep spiritual meaning for the visually impaired community. Rev. Joseph Appiah, Associate Pastor of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and himself blind, preached passionately on the launch theme:

But who am I that I should mount the pulpit of God to speak! If today, through the Methodist Church, the opportunity is available for some of us to stand in the pulpit to share the Word of God with His children, it’s enough evidence of the grace of God.

The Braille Bibles will be distributed free of charge to schools for children with visual disabilities and libraries nationwide, ensuring that no one is excluded from the life-changing message of Scripture.

BSG is also planning a literacy programme for Braille in local languages, enabling those who are unable to read Braille in English to access the Scriptures in their mother tongue as well.

Access to Scripture in Braille allows people who are blind or visually impaired to encounter God personally, affirming that faith transcends sight and that God’s Word transcends all barriers. In Ghana and beyond, this launch serves as a testament to the power of God’s Word to restore dignity, inspire faith, and build inclusive communities founded on hope.
