Bible Month 2026: Discovering the Bible as a Source of Peace - United Bible Societies

March 2, 2026

Bible Month 2026March brings with it a renewed invitation to rediscover the Bible. Across France, more than 200 bookstores are coming together for Bible Month 2026, a national initiative that places Scripture at the heart of public life once again.

Organised by the French Bible Society, Bibli’O publishers, and the French Religious Booksellers Association (SLLR), Bible Month is an annual event dedicated to promoting the Bible and its many translations to a wide audience. This year’s theme speaks directly into the uncertainties of our time: “The Bible, a Source of Peace.”

A Theme for Troubled Times

In a world often marked by division and unrest, the 2026 theme highlights a message woven throughout Scripture. The key verse for this edition comes from the Epistle of James 3:18: ‘And goodness is the harvest that is produced from the seeds the peacemakers plant in peace’.

This verse, featured on a specially designed bookmark for the event, reminds readers that peace is not passive. It is something to be cultivated and lived out.

An accompanying reflection available on the Bible Month website explores how the call to be peacemakers resonates from Genesis to Revelation, and how it remains deeply relevant today.

Bookstores Bringing the Bible to Life

Throughout March, participating bookstores are creatively embracing Bible Month. Some are decorating their shop windows with eye-catching displays. Others are setting up dedicated Bible tables or hosting talks, workshops, and discussion groups.

To support these efforts, the French Bible Society has distributed:

  • 800 posters
  • 20,000 bookmarks
  • 22,000 colouring cards
  • 17,000 brochures

These materials are available free of charge at participating religious bookstores, making it easy for visitors to engage with the theme in a tangible way.

A Collective Reflection on Peace

In the lead-up to Bible Month, the French Bible Society invited the public to respond to a simple but profound question: “How is the Bible a source of peace for you?”

Selected responses are now featured on the Bible Month website, offering personal insights into how Scripture continues to comfort, guide, and anchor individuals in everyday life.

The website also provides additional resources, including a suggested Bible study activity designed for small groups to reflect together on the theme of peace.

More Than a Campaign

Bible Month 2026 is more than a promotional campaign. It is an open invitation to pause, to reflect, and to rediscover the Bible as a living source of peace in uncertain times.
