Celebrating 40 Years of Partnership and Impact
UBS partner, the Amity Foundation, celebrated its 40th anniversary on November 18. Marking this milestone, 300 attendees and 90 international guests gathered for a special event in Nanjing, Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, China.
In 1986, Amity Printing Press was jointly founded by United Bible Societies (UBS) and the Amity Foundation, with the building development commencing in Dongshan Town, Jiangning County, Nanjing. In November 1987, the first Bibles from Amity Printing Press were produced.
From Printing Press to Global Bible Printing Leader

Over the decades, Amity Printing Press has evolved into Amity Printing Company, a modern printing company serving as the primary base for Bible printing in China and one of the world’s largest centres for Bible printing. Its mission is to serve the Chinese church by meeting their needs for Bibles, to serve overseas churches with their needs for Bibles, and to serve the Chinese society and the people of China.
Since 1987, Amity Printing Company has printed more than 286 million copies of the Bible, making it one of the largest Bible printers in the world.
At the 40th anniversary celebrations, UBS was represented by Fellowship Council member and General Secretary of the Bible Society of Malaysia, Rev. Mathew Punnoose. Dr Bernard Low, UBS China Partnership (UBSCP) Director, and Mr Kua Wee Seng, former UBSCP Director were also in attendance.
Reflections from the World Council of Churches
Speaking at the 40th anniversary celebrations, World Council of Churches (WCC) General Secretary, Rev. Prof. Dr. Jerry Pillay highlighted the impact of Amity Foundation:
“Since its founding in 1985, the Amity Foundation has stood as a shining witness to compassion in action—rooted in the values of service, solidarity, and care for those most in need. Over the past four decades, Amity has dedicated itself to supporting vulnerable communities, advancing education and health, promoting sustainable development, and fostering interfaith and intercultural dialogue. Its work has touched countless lives, bringing hope and dignity where they are most needed.”
