The Bible Society of Benin (BSB) has officially launched the Benin Bible App – a free, interactive and multi-format platform designed to speak to the hearts of millions of Beninese people. On September 20, BSB headquarters in Cotonou, Fifadji, hosted celebrations to mark this blessed occasion.
Romans 10:17 inspired the project from the beginning:
“So then, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message comes through preaching Christ.” (GNT)
Through the application, users can access audio, video, and text Bibles in ten of Benin’s languages: French, Fon-Gbe, Aja-Gbe, Gun-Gbe, Gen-Gbe, Idaasha, Yoruba, Bariba, Dendi, and Fulani.

In addition to reading and listening to the Bible in the ten languages, users can also take advantage of the following features:
- Synchronized reading and listening
- Personalized repetition
- Offline accessibility
- Quick search
- Secure backup
Spirit of Collaboration
The app is the fruit of a collaborative partnership between the Bible Society Benin, Bible Society of Nigeria, Faith Comes by Hearing, League for Bible Reading in Benin, Wycliffe Benin, Trans World Radio Benin, GBEEB, SIL Benin–Togo and SIM. Each group recognised the potential impact of this Bible application throughout Benin and worked to see it come to life.
Part of the Benin Listen 60 Campaign
The launch coincides with the beginning of the “Benin Listen 60” campaign. Running from September 30 to November 30 across Cotonou, Calavi, Porto-Novo and Parakou, this national initiative invites Christians to listen to the Bible for 60 consecutive days via the app. Three 20-day phases will include:
- Phase 1: digital – Listening to Bible verses via the app, with discussions in WhatsApp groups.
- Phase 2: community – Participants will listen to the Word of God through a Proclaimer Bible speaker, and discuss in physical groups.
- Phase 3: audio-visual – Screenings of videos and discussions in physical groups.
Communities completing all three rounds will receive certificates recognising their commitment.
Potential Impact
The Benin Bible App removes barriers to Bible engagement for many young people, families, and those with limited literacy. It also supports evangelism and discipleship in urban settings where mobile phones are a key communication tool.
For the Fellowship, the Benin Bible App illustrates how digital innovation, local partnerships and multilingual content can work together to anchor people in the Word of God. As more believers listen, watch and share the Bible in their own languages, the vision is for deeper faith, stronger churches and transformed communities throughout Benin.
Partnership and Vision
This launch forms part of a wider “Interaction with the Holy Scriptures” initiative to deepen Bible engagement across the country. Training sessions for church administrators and facilitators have already begun in Parakou and will continue in Bantè and other towns. Pastors and leaders are being encouraged to promote the app and guide their congregations through the campaign.
