Across cultures and continents, families who are faithful to Scripture share a common desire to pass on biblical values to the next generation. Deuteronomy 6:6–7 offers a timeless reminder that God’s Word should be taught, repeated, and lived out daily at home. For this to happen, Scripture needs to be part of the everyday rhythms, conversations, and decisions in family life.
Connecting Families Worldwide With the Word
The Family Bible 100 Steps, developed by the Bible Society of the Netherlands and Flanders, is one of the most effective tools designed to support this mission. Translated and shared in 22 languages, it helps families engage with Scripture in a simple and meaningful way.
This resource guides families through the Old and New Testaments. The combination of storytelling, visual elements, and interactive content has made it a valuable tool for families who want to build regular Scripture habits at home. It includes:
- Scripture readings
- Engaging illustrations
- Activities
- Discussion questions
- In-depth biblical insights
- Content created for different learning styles.

Over the past four years, 850,000 Family Bibles have been distributed. These Bibles are helping families strengthen their daily engagement with Scripture and build lasting connections around God’s Word. The one million milestone is expected to be reached in 2026.
In addition to family use, the Family Bible 100 Steps is also widely used by churches and Sunday school teachers as a practical resource for teaching Bible stories to children.
Celebrating a Milestone
This milestone was recently celebrated at the offices of the Bible Society of the Netherlands and Flanders. The celebration included colleagues who played key roles in this journey. Among them were Elsje van Ommen, who worked with the team in Honduras, to translate the first Family Bible into Spanish, and Hanna Versteegen-Stevelmans and Paul Doth, who coordinate global projects with Bible Societies around the world. They were joined by Rieuwerd Buitenwerf, General Secretary of the Bible Society.
Keeping Scripture Alive for Future Generations
The Family Bible 100 Steps is more than a publication. It is a global movement that brings together families, churches, volunteers, and Bible Society teams. By helping families engage with Scripture in the language of their hearts, it supports the ongoing work of passing on God’s Word to future generations.
Individuals, churches, or organisations interested in obtaining copies can contact their local Bible Society.
