The United Bible Societies (UBS) has released its 2025 Translation Statistics Report, highlighting significant progress in making Scripture accessible to more people around the world.
During 2025, Bible translations were published in 100 languages used by approximately 566 million people. These included first-time translations, new translations, and revisions, reflecting the ongoing commitment of Bible Societies to ensure people can engage with Scripture in a language they understand.
First Translations Expand Access
A major milestone in 2025 was the completion of first translations in 66 languages spoken by approximately 32 million people. These included 13 full Bibles, three New Testaments, and 50 portions of Scripture.
Among the most significant achievements were the first full Bible translations in East Oromo, spoken by more than 10 million people in Ethiopia, and Modern Hebrew, used by more than 6 million people in Israel.
The year also saw substantial progress among indigenous language communities in Latin America and among Deaf communities through the publication of Scripture in several sign languages.
Keeping Existing Translations Relevant
Alongside first translations, UBS published new and revised translations in 34 languages used by approximately 534 million people.
Major projects included new translations in Italian, Punjabi, and Urdu, as well as significant revisions to the Vietnamese, Afrikaans, and Kabyle Bibles. These updates help ensure that Scripture remains clear, accurate, and accessible as languages evolve over time.
Reaching People Through Accessible Formats
Bible Societies continued to expand access through digital, audio, Braille, and sign-language formats.
As of January 2026, the Digital Bible Library contains more than 4,100 texts in 2,444 languages, while over 3,200 audio Scriptures are available in 1,800 languages. New Braille and sign-language Scripture resources were also published, helping make God’s Word more accessible to Deaf and blind communities worldwide.
Progress with Work Still Ahead
The report also highlights the ongoing need for Bible translation. While approximately 7.6 billion people now have access to some Scripture in their language, 123 million people still have no Scripture available in their heart language.
In addition, more than 1.5 billion people do not yet have access to the full Bible in their language, demonstrating that significant work remains to be done.
